The rum of "La Negrita " was deposited by Paul Bardinet in Limoges in 1886. A few years later, the brand became "Negrita" in short. The image of the brand, represented by a West Indian woman is, according to Bacholet, the oldest character in French advertising.
The image was drawn by Max Camis. In 1895, Paul Bardinet's son decided to leave Limoges to settle in Bordeaux, which was at the time an important port where rum ships from the Caribbean docked and an important hub for the alcohol trade. In 1974, the company moved to Blanquefort, Gironde. Rum Negrita is still made there today.
Discover the fascinating world of Rhum Négrita, an exceptional spirit that has captivated rum enthusiasts and connoisseurs for generations. In this article, we invite you to explore the rich history of this iconic brand, its unique expertise, and its varied range of products with subtle and captivating aromas.
Rhum Négrita has its origins in the early 20th century, specifically in 1930, in the Rabelais troglodyte cellars located in the Loire Valley, France. Created by Daucourtceans, a family business specializing in the production of quality spirits, this rum is today globally recognized for its incomparable taste. The brand draws its inspiration from the American side, proudly highlighting the African roots of the creator of this famous beverage.
At Négrita, every step of production is carefully monitored to ensure the best possible taste experience for consumers. The process begins with the selection of the finest sugar canes from the Caribbean and Guyana. Once harvested, these are pressed to extract the vesou, a sugarcane-based juice used as a raw material.
The vesou then undergoes natural fermentation, which can last between 24 and 72 hours. This crucial step allows the sugars in the vesou to be converted into alcohol. This is followed by two types of distillations to complete the process:
It is important to note that the choice of distillation method depends on the type of rum desired (white, amber, or old).
For aged Négrita Rums, the precious nectar is left to rest for several years in oak barrels which give it a golden color, as well as additional aromas depending on the type of wood used. Once the aging period is complete, the rums are blended by the cellar master to create unique mixtures with harmonious and balanced aromas.
The brand offers a diverse and varied selection of products suited to all tastes. Below are some essentials:
