Rum from Dominican Republic

Rum from Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is one of the great homelands of rum. The cultivation of sugar cane is very old there and it is estimated that it is perhaps one of the first places where sugar cane was cultivated. There is mainly molasses rum, round and smooth, making it accessible. It is consumed as much in cocktails as it is neat for a tasting. Only ten percent of the production is exported, but its aura is very strong internationally. Emblematic brands like Barcelo, Brugal, help make Dominican rum famous. After the Cuban revolution brands like Matusalem or Cubaney settled there and imported their style, enriching the variety of production on the island. Its fame makes it one of the countries that also interests independent bottlers such as Mezan, Compagnie des Indes or Rom de Luxe!
