Rum from Colombia

Rum from Colombia

Colombia has a long history with rum. Sugar cane was introduced in 1538 in Cartagena by the colonists. The first distillery in the country, the Real Fábrica de Licores was founded around 1784. Aguardiente and rum are produced there using molasses. Today there are 6 distilleries in the country, those of Antioquia, Caldas, Cundinamarca, Cauca, Valle del Cauca, and Boyacá. Colombian rums or rons are made with molasses and aged using the solera method. Colombia, where rum has long been considered a product of mass consumption, is home to many treasures and rare vintages. There are different brands such as Dictador, Coloma or La Hechicera which are available for purchase.
