Saint Kitts and Nevis
The state of Saint Kitts and Nevis is the smallest country in North America. Located in the Lesser Antilles, in the Caribbean region, it covers an area of 261 km2. In the form of a federation, it is made up of two small islands, Saint Kitts (officially the saint Christopher island) and slightly further south, Nevis. Sugar production has been present there since the 18th century in an important way and was considered as an emblematic producer, both in terms of its volume and its quality until 2005, via the Saint Christophe sugar factory. If in 2006 the abandonment of the cultivation of sugar cane marks a major change in a three hundred year old tradition, rum brands persist in perpetuating the island tradition, with for instance, the Sister Isle brand.
