Neisson

Since its creation in 1931, the Neisson distillery has preserved in the purest Martinican tradition the components of a rum with incomparable flavors and taste. Packaged in a bottle with generous shapes, reasonable among all: "Zépol Karé" as the amateurs say, our rums are the result of a know-how constantly renewed from the cane fields to the aging cellars.

The distillery NEISSON produces agricultural rums that benefit from the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Rhum Agricole Martinique. An agricultural rum is made from the distillation of cane sugar juice as opposed to industrial rums which come from the distillation of molasses (residue from the production of cane sugar). The distillery's activity corresponds to the sugarcane harvest period, which usually takes place from the end of February to the end of June. The rest of the time, the production tool is maintained and refurbished so that it is fully operational during the "harvest". The distillery is now run by the daughter and grandson of Hildevert-Pamphille Neisson, founder of the distillery. This small factory can now boast of having been able to preserve its independence as one preserves a fragile treasure, at a time when most distilleries are absorbed by large groups. Thus, the Neisson distillery remains an essential reference in terms of quality, authenticity, and a unique place in the hearts of its loyal consumers: an Antan Lontan rum. "A desire to remain on a human scale, combined with a search for excellence, are in our opinion the only guarantee of offering a rare product, and that the family tradition can continue." Thanks to this requirement, the notoriety of Neisson rum continues to grow abroad, and the awards are becoming more and more numerous.

Are you familiar with Rhum Neisson? An iconic brand from Martinique, known for the quality of its products and captivating history. Our article will shed light on the various offerings by this family-owned distillery. From their white rums to their vintage editions, including limited and collector's editions, discover everything you need to know to fully enjoy and appreciate Rhum Neisson.

A Journey through the History of Distillerie Neisson

The Rhum Neisson distillery is ideally located at the entrance of the town of Carbet, on the North-Caribbean coast of Martinique. It is surrounded by a charming shop, an impressive house with vibrant colors, and a factory where some of the finest rums in the region are crafted. Today, under the leadership of Grégory Vernant-Neisson, this company embodies more than ever the image of authentic rum, made with passion and respect for the local terroir.

Sugarcane, cultivated directly on the family estate, is distilled before undergoing Neisson's unique maturation process. It is thanks to this advantage that the family succeeded in introducing their first organic reference in 2017: an AOC Organic Rum.

The Unmissable Rums from Neisson

White Rum: The Starting Point

Let's begin by exploring the essential white rum, offered at around 30 euros. This reference, evocatively named Le Rhum par Neisson, is a true gustatory treasure to savor on its own or in cocktails. But to delve deeper into this sensory experience, we also offer two organic rums: Le Rhum Biologique par Neisson and L'Esprit Bio.

  • Neisson Organic White Rum (70cl 52.3°) – A subtle blend of Martinique terroir quality and ecological commitment.
  • L'Esprit Bio – Another organic version, offering a range of distinct flavors.

Aged Rums: Limited and Vintage Editions

When it comes to aged rums, a few are particularly notable among connoisseurs. Here are two examples:

  • Neisson Extra Old Aged Rum – A unique and exceptional large-format reference, perfect for marking grand occasions.
  • Neisson Very Old Rum VSOP Vintage Edition LMDW Millésime – A limited edition with only 750 numbered bottles, exclusive to La Maison du Whisky.

Lastly, we'd like to highlight two bottles from the Extra Old rum range:

  • Le Rhum XO par Neisson – A must-have for discerning enthusiasts, offering generous fruity and spicy notes.
  • Neisson Straight from the Barrel 2018 Antipodes 4 years Old Aged Rum (70cl 58.1°) – A world-first: The very first Single Cask raw barrel in the history of the brand.

How to Enjoy Neisson Rums?

Neisson rums are primarily enjoyed neat, especially as a digestif after a good meal. They can also serve as a base for creating excellent cocktails, such as the famous ti'punch.

It's important to note that the flavor of these rums is intimately connected to their terroir. This is particularly evident with versions crafted from organic sugarcane. Other more classic references, like Rhum Neisson le XO par Neisson, are also essential additions to one's collection.

In summary, Rhum Neisson offers a wide range of premium references, allowing both connoisseurs and newcomers to initiate or deepen their knowledge of this iconic Martinican spirit. Don't miss the opportunity to enrich your tasting experience with these rums that embody passion, respect for tradition, and Martinican excellence.

How to Taste Neisson White Rum 70 L'esprit?

The spirit of Neisson represents the raw column distillate of this emblematic Martinique brand. With an alcohol content around 70°, it surprises with its aromatic strength, the alcohol sensation being less pronounced than one might fear. For the audacious enthusiasts, it is possible to enjoy it neat or in a ti-punch, at room temperature, for an authentic experience.

It is also conceivable to taste the Esprit de Neisson in an original way by placing the bottle in the freezer. This method transforms the texture of the rum, making it more velvety, offering a smooth sensation on the tongue.

How is Neisson Rum Pronounced?

This question often comes up in the Excellence Rhum shop. It is indeed a French rum, and the Neisson brand is pronounced simply, in the French manner: Nai-sson or Nè-sson (nɛsɔ̃).

Where to Find Neisson Rum?

At Excellence Rhum in Paris or on this online rum sales site. We have the most beautiful and prestigious collection of Neisson rum in the world. Do not hesitate to visit the shop on rue Dauphine.

Is Neisson Part of the AOC Martinique?

Absolutely! All Neisson rums do indeed carry the AOC Martinique label. It is worth noting that Claudine Neisson was once the president of the AOC Martinique.

Neisson, a Family Distillery

Neisson is one of the last family distilleries on the island. Along with La Favorite, these two distilleries do not belong to large groups. They maintain their independence, identity, and small production, which makes them unique.

Is Neisson Rum Expensive?

Although rare for aged rum vintages, given that stocks are limited, the distillery has managed to confer a certain nobility to its aged rums with beautiful limited editions in decanters or ranges such as Zetwal or Armada. The price of aged rums is often commensurate with the quality.

Nonetheless, the Neisson distillery produces one of the best white rums on the island, and this last is very accessible for all budgets.

In conclusion, it is possible to indulge at a lower cost with the white rums offered by the Neisson distillery. The price increases reasonably considering the work provided for the organic white and amber rums, and finally, the prices soar for the aged and prestigious rums.

What Do the Profiles 105, 107, 62, Organic or Not Mean?

The profiles are barrel heating levels where the rum is stored. These profiles, specific to the request of the Neisson distillery and their cooperage, correspond to a wood grain but also to the heating inside the barrel. Each profile is named with a number and gives the white rum an amber hue with specific tastes. This is referred to as maturation.

Did You Know? The First Organic Rum Was Born at Neisson.

Indeed, Neisson initiated research on the absence of pesticide and herbicide use in its sugarcane fields. The distillery even developed a robot that roamed the sugarcane fields and weeded daily. The Neisson distillery is a pioneer in the field of organic rums, with the 52.5% Organic White Rum by Neisson.
