Karukera

The particularity of Karukera rum is that it is made only from blue cane. Blue cane or B69.566 is a variety of sugar cane (native to Barbados).

This variety of sugar cane owes its name to its purplish blue reflections and has been selected for its exceptional aromatic qualities and rich sugar content. Karukera in homage to the first name given to Guadeloupe. The Karukera Rum was born at the Domaine du Marquisat de Sainte-Marie, leaning against the masssif of Soufrière with the sea as a second horizon.

The Exceptional History of Karukera Rum

Formerly bearing the name of the island before the arrival of Christopher Columbus, Karukera is now famous for being a delicious and unique rum brand. Founded in 1895 within the Marquisat estate in Sainte-Marie, Guadeloupe, this ambitious project aimed to create rum using locally grown sugarcane juice. This pledge of independence and self-sufficiency sets Karukera apart from other brands and gives it international acclaim.

Over the years, thanks to the integration of new production methods, the unwavering expertise of a daring master distiller, and the riches of an exceptional terroir, Karukera has become one of the references in rum production in Guadeloupe.

A Diverse Range for Cocktail Enthusiasts

Whether you are a fan of rum-based cocktails or simply seeking a gustatory journey to Guadeloupe, Karukera offers a wide range of products to satisfy your desires. Among the most prestigious is their 12-year-aged rum in Cognac casks, a 2009 vintage with precious spicy and medicinal notes. A true homage to Christopher Columbus.

François Longueteau and Grégoire Hayot, the Visionaries Behind Karukera Rum

In 2005, François Longueteau and Grégoire Hayot decided to challenge local traditions by venturing into rum aging, a practice not widely seen in Guadeloupe. They began with promising experiments involving local agricultural rums and molasses distilled at Montebello, as well as aged agricultural rums imported from Martinique. These successes allowed them to pursue their primary goal: to promote local agricultural rum and create a rounded, complex, and balanced aged rum.
