In the world of premium spirits
During the 17th century, Spanish ships landed on the shores of Mexico with barrels of sweet straw wine. But rather than leaving empty, these barrels were filled with a Mexican rum known as "Chinguirito". The long journey home worked wonders on rum. As they returned to
Spain (after a stop in Havana, Cuba), the barrels infused the Chinguirito with complex, aromatic notes that made the rum so good that it quickly sold better than other rums in Spain. Nicknamed Habanero because of his time in Havana, Cuba, it became so popular that it began to threaten the Spanish spirits industry, and pushed the King of Spain, Felipe vde Borbón, to ban it between 1700 and 1796. For nearly a century, its production in the New World was considered a criminal act. Today, El ron Prohibido is making its long-awaited comeback. Discover this deliciously exotic rum with incomparable flavors. Nicknamed Habanero after its history, El ron Prohibido is no longer banned
