Ron Del Barrilito

Ron Del Barrilito is a premium artisanal rum recognized by many experts as one of the best rums in the world.

In 1871, after completing his studies in France, Mr. Pedro F. Fernández returned to the family Hacienda in Puerto Rico, and developed a great rum similar to the style of French eaux-de-vie and cognacs. Originally, this rum was made solely for the consumption of family and guests. At the time, this rum was served directly from the barrel and his guests had therefore affectionately named the rum "Ron Del Barrilito".

Embark on a journey through time with this exceptional rum, a legacy of four generations at Hacienda Santa Ana…

Rare and sought after, Pedro's rums became the subject of requests from guests and visitors at Hacienda Santa Ana, who sought after his famous "ron del barrilito" (the rum from the small barrel). Thus, in 1880, Ron del Barrilito was born, and the brand was registered.

Pedro decided to retain the stylish Cognac bottles of the era for his rum, as well as the age classification system based on stars (3 Stars indicating the most aged spirits).

The tale of the Fernandez lineage at Hacienda Santa Ana

Since 1880, Ron del Barrilito has been a testament to the Fernandez family's endeavor.

Hacienda Santa Ana, bestowed in 1787 by the Spanish crown, is the historical home of this family. Initially dedicated to sugar cane cultivation, this estate sparked Pedro Fernandez's interest in French spirits during his engineering studies in France. Upon returning to Puerto Rico, he set out to revolutionize the aging process of rum, opting exclusively for ex-Sherry Oloroso barrels to create a distinctive product.

The very essence of Ron del Barrilito lies in its consistency: crafted by the same family, on the same estate, and according to the same recipe since 1880, without any change.

A tradition passed down from generation to generation

Despite being closed during Prohibition in 1930, the Fernandez lineage continues to source Puerto Rican cane distillates. The rums are aged, blended, and bottled at Hacienda Santa Ana. The recent acquisition by the Bacardi heirs has not altered the production of Ron del Barrilito, its place of manufacture, its aging process, or even its packaging, maintaining its 100% authenticity.

Driven by the history of Ron del Barrilito, the Bacardi family has committed to safeguarding the facilities and reserves of ancient rums that were at risk. It works closely with the descendants of Pedro Fernandez, allowing Don Fernando, his 86-year-old grandson, to finally share the recipe, which until then had been transmitted orally from one generation to the next.

The journey continues, promising new developments...

The two flagship rums, 2 and 3 Stars, pay homage to the Cognac classification of the 19th century. Although sharing the same base, distinct aging and blending techniques give each a unique character.
