A Historical Recipe from Barbados

Legend has it that in 1840, Sir James Taylor Mountjoy devised the first recipe for falernum in the kitchens of his home in Bridgetown. His successor, John D. Taylor, perfected the formula in 1890 and gave it his name. Now produced by R.L. Seale & Co. at the Foursquare Distillery, this Barbadian liqueur marries quality white rum with lime peels, almonds, ginger and cloves.

The essential ingredient of tiki cocktails

With its 11% vol., Velvet Falernum stands out for its silky texture and its balance between sweetness and spice. The nose reveals citrus zest and a hint of nutmeg. On the palate, the flavor is naturally sweet, dominated by candied lime , cloves, and a touch of vanilla. A cult ingredient in Mai Tai, Zombie, Corn 'n Oil and countless tiki classics, it also enhances daiquiris and punches with remarkable aromatic complexity.
