Alexandre (The Founder of Excellence) and Florent (Manager of the Parisian store) land in Guadeloupe in the early morning. We are in February 2022. They take the direction of the port of Pointe-à-Pitre to go to Marie-Galante.
A mixture of fatigue and exaltation marks their arrival on the 100 Windmill island. They first needed to find food. They found a restaurant, one where all the visitors to the island meet. "And then, comes the moment of our first ti-punch, summarizes Florent. They put the bottle of Bielle on the table, the sugar and the lime; finally we arrived!"
Bielle is an old distillery. More than a century and still standing, still active. You have to drive to get there. Lots of turns and landscapes. Sugarcane shapes spaces. Oxen are lying on the side of the road, determined not to move. Cars go around them. Oxpeckers are cleaning cattle a few meters away. There are tractors, cars but also carts.
Alexandre and Florent are welcomed at Bielle. From a distance, they had seen the column heads protected by corrugated iron. Then the distillery stands before them. Old machines decorate the site. Craftsmanship, agricultural industry and heritage come together. Copper, stainless steel, steel, stone, but above all cane. The flavors of rum circulate and sway in the wind, it smells good. The visit of the vats, the distillery, the columns allow you to taste some white rums in vats
Then they arrive at the cellars; a maze of barrels! Jérôme Thiery guides them and offers them different rums for tasting. May the selections begin...
Bielle, 5 years old, ex-Bourbon cask: the pastry aromas of this rum caress the nose with brown sugar, candied oranges and marmalade. This delicacy is then faithfully transcribed in the mouth. A buttery touch is added, and a few spicy twists counterbalance the citrus fruits. The finish finds its balance between the flavors of precious wood, crème brûlée and citrus. The generosity of this cuvée offered at cask strength, will be supported by the power of its 57.6%.
Bielle, 10 years old, ex-sherry cask: you are guided towards scents of candied fruit, cigar box, lined with oily notes of sour cherry stone. The surprise continues in the mouth thanks to the talent of the Cellar Master. The acidic fruits then land delicately on the palate before the appearance of a pleasant minty touch. The finish, long and powerful, is expressed through stewed fruits and spices, to end in smoothness. This amazing rum that we invite you to taste is offered at cask strength, at 54.8%.
