Eminente Gran Reserva, Edition No. 2, Sauternes finish, to your applause.

Excellence Rhum was invited to the official presentation of the Eminente Gran Reserva, Edition No. 2, Sauternes finish. Indeed, less than two years after the release of the highly anticipated Gran Reserva No. 1, Cognac finish, Eminente offers us a second edition that is already arousing curiosity. And for good reason: what is the result of the meeting between Cuban rum art and French wine art? Excellence Rhum tells you the story.

An atmosphere

The meeting was set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10th, in an art gallery located on Rue du Temple in Paris. Upon entering, the bar is directly ahead, and to the left, a set table evokes the flavors we will discover while tasting this new release. At the end of the room, shelves are lined with bottles of Eminente. The ambiance is orange: orange like the label of this Edition No. 2, orange like the apricots stacked in a pyramid at the edge of the table, orange like the sunny honey glistening on the other side. The bottle is as elegant as ever, molded in glass with a crocodile skin pattern. A retro aesthetic straight out of American films of the 1950s: Hitchcock could have placed this bottle in a bar, and James Stewart or Cary Grant would have opened it.

Honey and fruit

We are served the beverage with amber highlights. On tasting, the attack is fruity, dominated by apricot. It evolves towards notes of honey, enhanced by a woody finish. Here we have a generous rum, with a rounder profile than the previous one, a more pronounced sweetness, thus showing Eminente's desire to both surprise and broaden the circle of enthusiasts.

Camille de Dominicis, founder of the brand, sheds some light on this new selection: "We carried out several tests on the finishes. Just like the Cognac previously, the Sauternes worked." She indicates that the choice of limited editions comes from a real discussion between the brand and César Martí, Cuban master blender. The brand having notably brought new barrels to Cuba, this allows him to carry out new experiments and bring together Cuban and French traditions. Today, Eminente Gran Reserva Edition No. 2 replaces the first edition. Success will very probably be achieved. But the brand is not resting on its laurels and will surprise us again during the year 2026…
