The Great Evening at Casa Brugal

In the 19th arrondissement, a loft, a little artist's studio, a little bohemian, is refreshed in the colors of the Dominican Republic. Handpicked guests are invited this Monday, June 19, to go to this first Casa Brugal installed by the brand, in Paris. The visitor strolls through the paved inner courtyard, richly vegetalized, before seeing through a window, the kitchen where the cocktail dinner imagined by the starred chef Maria Marte is prepared. Upon entering the building, you come across the gleaming Decanter Andres Brugal, the haute-couture piece of Maison Brugal.

We then find ourselves drawn to the atmosphere in the adjoining room, where the cocktail bar is located. The menu revolves around three cocktails, including two proposed by Margot Lecarpentier from the bar Combat, based on Brugal 1888: a Don Andres Daïquiri, a Belleville Republica, and also an Old Fashioned, all three perfectly calibrated for a good evening.

The most surprising animation is undoubtedly the demonstration, and the participation at will, of glass blowing, (yes, yes!), by a Meilleur Ouvrier de France. An original idea to highlight!

Léonard Gonzalez, brand ambassador, opens the ceremony with a short greeting followed by a lively speech by Jassil Villanueva, representing the 5th generation of Maestra Ronera from the Brugal family, the first female Maestra Ronera from the Dominican Republic.

Brugal 1888 by Jassil Villanueva

Jassil Villanueva leads a Master Class, alternating with Léonard Gonzalez, in a magnificent basement, under a vault of old stones. A table is set with bottles, glasses, of course, but above all enough for a  food and Brugal rum pairing: dried apricots, dates and above all chocolate.

Brugal 1888 is a 100% Dominican molasses rum. The selected molasses must contain between 50 and 60% fermentable sugar. The aging of rum is the major know-how of Maison Brugal. Resulting from a double maturation, the Brugal 1888 is aged consecutively in two different barrels, for a minimum period of 10 years.

Each of the ex-bourbon American white oak barrels and the ex-Sherry Oloroso European oak barrels are selected to bring an aromatic richness as well as a perfectly balanced woodiness to the rum. Sourced from Jerez, Spain, the Oloroso Sherry casks are among the most exclusive in the world and bring a richer profile to the rum and new aromas such as red fruits and dried fruits. The addition of sugar in the final blend does not exceed three grams per liter.

On the palate, you get a round, balanced rum, a rich and lustful woodiness with aromas of spices and fruits. A very elegant rum.
