Results of the Rhum Fest Award 2024.

.

This year marks the grand return of the Rhum Fest Award competition for the 10th anniversary of Rhum Fest. No fewer than 30 judges gathered a few days before the event to taste more than 350 rums in competition. The jury is international, coming from all corners of the globe. The tastings are of course blind and only the categories are known to the judges. The rums are divided into 17 categories. It is not excluded that some rums belong to several categories. Each judge assigns a score to each rum, those with the most points are awarded a gold, silver or bronze medal. Of course, these medals will highlight the winning bottles during the 3 days of Rhum Fest Paris. We thought it would be a good idea to list them on our blog of excellence in order to facilitate the search for these rums to buy them or for the Rhum Fest Paris.

PURE JUICE AND AGRICOLE RHUMS

Pure cane juice and agricultural rums mean the same thing or almost, the term agricultural is dedicated to specific origins. As you read these lines, we are talking about the French West Indies, Réunion and the island of Madeira.

But what is a pure cane juice rum or an agricultural rum?

It is a rum made from sugar cane, harvested and then crushed to extract the juice. There is therefore no intermediate step between harvesting and fermenting the cane juice.

Pure juice white agricultural rum

We are talking about white rum that will remain white because it will not be influenced by the wood of a barrel or vat. White rum can only be worked by letting it rest in a stainless steel tank with regular stirring for the integration of flavors. Here are the winning rums in this category of agricultural white rum and pure cane juice:

Pure juice and agricultural rum aged 3 to 6 years

In our category of rum made from fresh sugarcane juice, we find rum aged in wooden barrels. Its amber color is enhanced by mahogany and copper highlights, and its aromas are enriched by the influence of wood.

Pure juice and agricultural rum aged 6 years and older.

We evolve in age and complexity thanks to a minimum aging of 6 years and more, so we talk about X.O but also about aged rum! Let's see what we have here.

RUMS FROM MOLASSES, CANE HONEY, BLEND

Here is a category that we appreciate for its diversity. This is rum distilled from molasses or cane honey. We have a complete rum lexicon including the definitions of the terms above.

Dry White Rum

This is a dry white rum because its sugar content is zero or less than 5 grams per liter. Sugar levels below 5 grams are often used as a flavor enhancer, similar to the role of salt in cooking.

Dry aged rum, 3 to 5 years old

We are progressing on the age account with the complexity of the wood intertwining with the aromas of the rum.

Dry aged rum, 6 years and older

We are going beyond the age of XO and hors d'âge on traditional rums, here are the winners of this category.

Aged sweetened rum

In the category of aged rums, here's what the winners have in store for us.

CASK STRENGTH RUM, SINGLE CASK

The most geeky category includes cask strength rums bottled at cask strength, without reducing the alcohol content, or single casks, meaning unique casks that have not been blended. A single cask can also be a cask strength.

Cask strength vintage or single cask rums

These are high-proof rums because they are unreduced, bearing a vintage reflecting the year of distillation or barreling. This category also includes single casks, meaning unblended.

Vintage or single cask reduced rums

Here are the winners in the single cask category and rum distilled or aged in barrels during a specific year but having undergone a reduction in alcohol content, an operation carried out by the Cellar Master progressively to preserve the aromas.

RUM-BASED SPIRITS

Spiced, spicy, spiced, and liqueurs

Spiced or spiced rum, a cocktail ingredient but also enjoyable on the rocks. It is often rum infused with spices, sweetened or not. Let's focus on the winners of the Liqueur category, which are spirits with more than 100g per liter.

Fruit Punches & Infused Rums

Make way for punch, fresh fruit juices macerated with rum, and spiced rums, which are macerations of fresh fruit in rum. Let's get to the winners:
