Sauternes at the service of Colombian rum

This 2 Masters edition combines the intensity of a rum Dictador1979 vintage with the nobility of Château d'Arches, a wine estate classified as a Grand Cru in the famous 1855 classification, located in Sauternes in Gironde. After decades of tropical ageing in Cartagena, the rum was refined in barrels that contained the precious sweet wine, bringing a unique botrytised dimension.

A profile of incomparable richness

Sauternes leaves its mark with notes of candied apricot, flower honey, saffron and candied exotic fruits. The rum base brings its depth of dark cocoa, tobacco and old wood. The palate is remarkably unctuous , almost syrupy, with a long finish oscillating between botrytised sweetness and noble bitterness of the great oak. A masterpiece of assembly between two universes, in a strictly limited edition.

Our tasting notes for 2 Masters Chateau d'Arches Vintage 1979

Nose : Dark chocolate orange with notes of summer fruit compote. Ripe plums and orange zest add energy to nose which also gives some light ginger notes and rich Madagascan vanilla. Vintage leather completes the package.

Palate : Crepe Suzette at first, followed by tangerine sweetness and some red apple notes. There is an underlying earthy note that adds complexity, followed by a sweet grape overtone that lift the taste again.

Finish : Rounded notes of candied orange peel and pear slices, coupled with a hint of smoky oak char.

In 1751, Severo Arango y Ferro landed in Cartagena de Indias, a port city in Colombia, to develop trade. A man of power, he was quickly baptized on Dictador.
