A rare selection at the heart of the know-how Montebello

Karibia - Eliko Batch 2 is made by the Montebello distillery in Petit-Bourg, Guadeloupe. Produced from pure cane juice crushed by the only steam engine still in operation on the island, it is distilled on the distillery's still before being aged for 12 years in cognac cask n°859 dating from 1991. Ageing is carried out in a shipping container, a method specific to Montebello that concentrates heat and humidity in order to promote exchanges between the rum and the wood. Bottled at 49.5% cask strength, without filtration or reduction, this single cask is limited to only 240 numbered bottles.

Tasting notes

The nose reveals a beautiful finesse with aromas of vanilla, caramel, coffee and peppery spices, supported by a discreet woodiness inherited from the cognac barrel. The palate combines candied fruit, vanilla, caramel, exotic notes, spices and touches of roasting, in a generous and balanced whole. The finish, long and warm, stretches over chocolate, spices and dried fruits, offering a singular aromatic profile within the agricultural rums of Guadeloupe.
