As rum legends tell the story of John Crow, is truly unique. This crazy story begins with a crime; a robbery perpetrated on the grounds of The Hampden Estate. Jamaican moonlight was stolen here by a particular segment of Trelawny's most infamous neighbours of Hampton Estate at the time. They called it John Crow because you had to have a stomach as strong as a vulture, which in Jamaica is called "John Crow," to drink it. Or some say you'd spin as high as a John Crow after drinking it...
It is from this stolen firewater that Jamaican overproof has its origins. Used not only for drinking but also for baptisms, to ward off evil spirits, as medicine, at weddings, etc., Jamaican white rum has become a kind of spiritual panacea. In the tradition of John Crow, we proudly present DOK or Dermot Owen Kelly, the highest ester brand of Hampden Estate, with 1,600 gr of esters per hectoliter of pure alcohol.
