Corman Collins Trois Rivières Cuvée Bèlè

The bèlè is a contemporary phenomenon that is essentially based on a reference to the culture of the Mornes Martiniquais created from 1860 to 1960 by the new frees resulting from the abolition of black slavery in 1848. The new freelancers found in the peasant a social space capable of guaranteeing effective freedom through access to land ownership in the hills.

The transition from the slave to the status of New Free is an opportunity for blacks to reverse colonial slave values and to oppose the housing society with new social bases: labor mutates from its servile form to its voluntary nature and thus represents a central cultural element. This cultural change is expressed through the creation of peasant societies based on mutual aid or "helping hands". This gift against the gift of work is formalized and ritualized in a diversity of Bèlè of mutual aid who alternate work and dance to symbolize a social mode that links subsistence and rejoicing.

This reference to the rural social mode of the new free is exercised through the Bèlè renouveau in a Martinican society present where the tertiary sector dominates in a great dependence on public financial transfers from the metropolis. In a historical continuity, the Martiniquans under the impetus of the renewal lists mobilize since 1980 the economic, social and cultural contributions of the dreary in the face of the contemporary reality where issues persist such as, the margin of autonomy of the Martinican society integrated into Europe in a context of globalization, access to land ownership of Martinicans, cultural resistance and the search for control of the future.
