Its origin: Queen Jeanne took refuge in 1347 in her county of Provence. Following a violent storm, she found refuge in a small castle of the gentleman glassmaker of the hamlet of "Saint Paul la Galline Grasse". Happy with this welcome, she asked to be present at the making of the bottles.
A little troubled, the glassmaker blew into the bit of his cane and made a huge bottle that was admired by all because of its capacity of about ten liters. He then decided to keep this format and call her "Queen Jeanne", the Queen modestly suggested that he call her "Dame Jeanne"...

In order to protect the bottles and for their transport, they are very often woven around wicker or soft local wood.

This limited series of Martinique rum bottles are all from Dame Jeanne from the 60's / 70's from the Corman Collinscollection.
