Charanda's "Uruapan" brand is a tribute to the city of the same name, where the Pacheco family has a long and rich history. Uruapan Blanco is a blended rum, composed of 50% sugar cane juice distilled in a copper still and 50% molasses distilled in a French still. The variety of sugarcane used is called Saccharum officinarum and is grown at 4,180 feet above sea level in volcanic soils also known as "Charanda" by the inhabitants of Purépecha.

For over 113 years, the Pacheco family has been the undisputed masters of Charanda in the picturesque town of Uruapan, Michoacán, Mexico. However, their history in the art of distillation dates back even further into the depths of the past. In 1907, visionary Don Cleofas Murgia switched from mezcal to sugarcane, a more lucrative endeavor, heralding an era of prosperity. Today, Miriam Pacheco leads the family business, ensuring the continuity of the Charanda tradition. Their determination to preserve the tradition reached its zenith in 2003 with the creation of the D.O., a sacred shield protecting all Charanda producers in the region. For over a century, the Pacheco family has excelled in crafting the finest Charanda in Uruapan, Michoacán, Mexico. Yet, their distillation history is timeless. In 1907, Don Cleofas Murgia chose to trade mezcal for sugarcane, drawn by its growing profitability, forsaking the declining allure of mezcal.
