The aged rum Abuelo 12 anos Two Oaks is the latest addition to the Varela family's collection.
This unique creation is the result of blending 12-year-old rums that have been double-matured in ex-American oak bourbon barrels and new American white oak barrels specially toasted for Ron Abuelo by their cooper partner in Nopa Valley, California.
These new dedicated barrels are first striated on the inside to increase the contact surface between the rum and the wood, then toasted using a mix of traditional American and Charente methods.
The result is a racy and elegant rum, certainly cut out for a new tasting experience.

The new American white oak barrels used for the maturation of the 12 anos Two Oaks are heated to 180°C for 60 minutes to gently open the wood grain. They are then heated again to 220°C to create a deep layer of charcoal over nearly 8mm. This 2-step process extracts the aromas from the wood and creates a natural charcoal filtration, providing that exceptionally smooth finish to Two Oaks.
