Twelve years under the Panamanian sun

The 12 Abuelo year-old Ron is the flagship of the classic Varela Hermanos range. After distillation, the rum is aged for 12 years in carefully selected American white oak barrels. Panama's tropical climate, with its consistently high temperatures, intensifies aging and the angels' share — the portion that evaporates — is considerable, further concentrating the flavors in the remaining rum.

An accomplished tasting rum

The nose is complex and enveloping: burnt caramel, intense vanilla, dried fruit, blond tobacco and spicy oak. The palate is velvety and generous, with layers of dark chocolate, toffee, cinnamon and toasted nuts. The finish is long and warm, with a perfectly integrated noble woodiness . Regularly awarded in international competitions, this 12-year-old is a pure tasting rum, to be enjoyed like a great spirit.

Panama's largest rum producer and bottler, Varela Hermanos, traces its history back to 1908. When Don José Varrela Blanco founded the Ingenio San Isidro, the first sugar factory in Panama.
