Olivier Levasseur was a famous pirate born in Calais at the end of the seventeenth century. Nicknamed "The Buzzard", because of his speed in seizing his prey, he scoured the Indian Ocean in the early eighteenth century, with his British associates Taylor and England.
They formed a small armada of three ships and more than 750 men who terrorized the entire region. He had settled in the Seychelles archipelago, on the main island of Mahe, where his story is still a source of much speculation on the part of locals still looking for the treasures of Levasseur.
