At the time of Portuguese colonization in the 15th century, the organized cultivation of sugar cane developed and with it the elaboration of cachaça.
Initially consumed at the places of production, cachaça spread, according to migrations, throughout the country. Today, it is the national drink of Brazil. The THOMAZ DE AQUINO family distillery created in 1906 (GRUPO THOQUINO), has been producing cachaça for more than 100 years. It is based in SAO JOAO DA BARRA in the Campos region (State of Rio), a traditional place of sugar cane cultivation since 1532. This region benefits from exceptional land and privileged sunshine. It is one of the very few distilleries to have its own sugar cane plantations, which allows it to control production from the plantation and always have a consistent quality.
