On ti dousè: respect for the product
Hello and thank you for agreeing to an interview with Excellence Rhum.

On ti dousè is first and foremost a name. Can you explain the name of your brand?

"On Ti Dousè" translates to "A Little Sweetness" in Creole. I wanted to keep the strength of my roots by using Creole and bring a smile by offering a rum-based treat.

Can you tell us about the genesis of your brand?

It's first a homemade recipe, a maternal recipe that I offered to my teams at the end of the year to reward the efforts made during the past year. And I always had the same reaction from my teams: "Your stuff is too good, can we buy it from you?" and a systematic response: "no! because it's the occasion that makes the nectar so precious."

And in December 2015, following yet another request, I decided to look into the situation and did a benchmark then a business plan during my Christmas vacation. Result On Ti Dousè was born on July 7, 2016.

In your range, rums are mainly built around a single product.

There are few blends of different flavors. Why this choice? What is the overall philosophy of your rums?

Indeed, I only have 2 blends in my range for now, because I like to bring out the aromatic power of my different flavors (fruits, condiments) in my rums. I want it to feel like you're biting into it, pushing the flavors to the maximum without breaking the balance, to respect the product worked on as much as possible without denaturing it.

This choice imposed itself on me because I create based on my culinary and olfactory experiences, and if I can't bring out an imagined taste, I prefer not to release anything, even if it's on par with what's on the market.

What is also the balance between sugar and fruit (or spice) present in your rum?

For me, balance is achieved based on the chosen rum, the level of sugar, and the aromatic power one wants to have. These are sliders that can take me more than a year, even two, to find. I've had a lot of failures, but you have to know how to persevere to sublimate things.

Are there any new releases planned for the end of the year?

Indeed, there are new releases coming out, including one very soon, but it will be a surprise, because we'll move on to something else…
