Daftmill des Lowlands

Daftmill is one of the 9 active distilleries in the Lowlands. The distillery was commissioned in 2005 but production did not really start until 2006.

Daftmill is owned by Francis and Ian Cuthbert whose family has been farming the land since the 80s. What makes Daftmill unique is its traditional production method. All the barley used for production is grown by Francis Cuthbert on family land (only one other distillery uses barley from 100% from his estate, the Ballindalloch distillery, but their products will not be available for at least 6 years). The whisky is distilled on the farm during the off-season, two months in summer and two months in winter. Daftmill is one of the smallest productions in Scotland with an average of only 100 barrels per year. It is also the only one that can use the term "Single Estate Farm Distillery".
