Located in Porto da Cruz on the north coast of Madeira, the Engenhos Do Norte distillery was built in 1927 as a result of a merger between fifty smaller rum farms at the time. The establishment produces aged sugar cane honey and agricultural rums.

It still uses the same steam equipment as when it was built, the last of its kind in Europe. Among these is a 7.5-metre-high Barbet distillation column, which produces rum for the distillery's many brands, including Branca, Rum 970, Rum 980 and Rum North.

Interestingly, Madiera is one of the only places outside the French overseas territories where one can legally use the term agricultural or, in this case, Agricola.
