On the west coast of Barbados, turquoise waves caress the soft sands of Brighton Beach. George Stade, an inspired distiller and inventor with many patents to his credit, chose this tranquil spot to build the W.I.R.D (West Indies Rum Distillery) in 1893. His dream was to apply his technical genius to the creation of the West Indies rum distillery. best rum, on the island where rum was born. The "Rum of the Stadium" quickly became renowned for its excellence and the name synonymous with the finest Barbadian rums. Today, our tribute to George Stade is made in the same distillery by the sea and softened by the sea in our warehouse "link N°8" just steps away from the gentle waves.
Located in Barbados on the white sands of Brighton beach and facing the turquoise waters of the maritime Caribbean, the West Indian rum distillery has been in existence since 1893. Faithful to its historical heritage and positive contribution to Barbadian rum, our experts produce exceptional rums thanks to a treasure trove of venerable rum stills and equipment and ancient manuscripts housed in the former vaulted distiller for more than a century. The distillery's mission has not changed in nearly 130 years: to create award-winning Barbadian rum using the best possible methods
In 1893, George Stade, an adventurer and seasoned expert with several patents of rum and sugar making under his name wanted to fulfil his lifelong dream: to create the perfect distillery and to make the world’s best rum showcasing his genius inventions. He invited his brother to join him and together they chose the location of a small existing distillery where fresh water and access to the sea were available at the breathtaking Brighton beach. The quality of their rum was recognized right away locally and internationally. A few decades later, “Stade’s” even became another word for rum on the island of Barbados and the distillery rapidly became the largest on the island. In 2020, Stades rum finally reemerged with two blends for the local and American market. It wasn't until 2024 that Stade's and the facebook group "Confrerie du Rhum" crafted a micro blend of fewer than 1000 bottles for Europe! To this day, the WIRD proudly produces excellent rum from Barbados.
