Edradour 9 Year Old 2016 Hampden Cask
History & Origins
At the head of Edradour, Andrew Symington took up a bold challenge: to create a dialogue between a Highland distillate and a cask from Hampden, a Jamaican distillery renowned for its high esters. This approach illustrates the esprit of artisanal distillery and the exploration of new aromatic fields in the world of single malt.
Product Overview
Vintage 2016, this 9-year-old Edradour matured in First Fill Rum Cask of Hampden origin, then was offered in Single Cask #328, in 70 cl format, at 48.2%. This choice of cask ageing exalts Jamaican markers while preserving the precise texture of the Highland single malt —a limited edition of 314 bottles.
Tasting notes
The tasting is divided into two stages: an olfactory phase where the rum generously imposes its signature (esterée tension, fullness), then a taste phase where the malted barley asserts itself, gaining the ascendancy with a suave complexity. The distillate, luminous with youth, remains clean, long and harmonious.
