Chartreuse Elixir Liquor
The Carthusians appealed to all their knowledge to decipher the grimoire, and their patient work finally came to fruition when Brother Jérôme Maubec, apothecary of the Great Chartreuse, developed this Elixir with incomparable virtues.
Very quickly became obvious the need to make this powerful remedy with an exceptional bouquet a digestive drink particularly pleasant to taste. The first liqueur, ancestor of the Chartreuse Verte, had emerged.
It is this very first liquor that the Carthusians are reviving today, naming it "Liqueur d'Elixir", to commemorate the handing over of the manuscript to the Carthusians of Vauvert 400 years ago.
