History and artistic collaboration

For this third edition of the Magnum range, La Maison du Whisky and Velier are uniting their passion around the Hampden Estate distillery, a jewel in the crown of Trelawny Parish in Jamaica. Spanish photographer Cristina De Middel, member and president of Magnum Photos, captures the raw and surreal atmosphere of the place: tropical humidity, ancestral vats and invasive nature blend in a rare cinematographic vision.

Presentation of this Hampden

Distilled between 2016 and 2021, the Hampden ♢H 8 Year Old is made from a ten-day prolonged fermentation, characteristic of the distillery. Aged in Jamaica, this rum has a high ester content (900 to 1,000 g/hlap), a signature of its aromatic intensity. Its structure reveals an exceptional complexity: mineral, empyreumatic and medicinal notes reminiscent of the peat bogs of Islay, while maintaining the vibrant and tropical identity of Hampden Estate.

Hampden Estate

Built around 1750 the Hampden distillery originally belonged to a Scotsman Archibald Sterling. Hampden is known for its heavy rums distilled in copper stills. The fermentation is long and natural (no use of commercial yeasts).
